Well Dressed Vandals | High End Hoodlums

Eclectic backgrounds in graffiti, music, photography and graphic and product design combine to develop an aesthetic clothing brand known as Well Dressed Vandals.

The label was initially established to create garments and products that were relevant to the founders and their friends in Australia. The premise was to represent their own lifestyle with like-minded individuals, while promoting a point of difference from all the US labels they wore early on in life.

Well Dressed Vandals founders Paul and Dean stated, "We weren't exactly artists, but more so vandals, however we were artistic in our graphic design, so combining those aspects just somehow worked" when describing the transition from graffiti writers to a clothing label. Building up their names as graffiti writers in the past also gave them experience in branding and subversive marketing, which would play a pivotal role in the labels growth.

It has been a great journey for the label who have gone from selling to friends and acquaintances, to an online store that has seen total strangers in the street dressed in WDV. "It's very satisfying to have made something from nothing and watch it constantly grow" They said.

A sign of success for Well Dressed Vandals came from the recent opportunity to have their label displayed at NEXT: Future of T-shirt Graphics exhibition. The event allowed their designs to be showcased alongside some of the founder’s favourite brands and provided a medium for the label to be seen on a huge scale.

Patience, a strong concept, research, and branding are all factors WDV feel any aspiring fashion designer should follow when trying to see success. "Don't try and impress others, create something you would wear yourself then others will follow" they added.
