Meet Kym Campbell, the acoustic pop, folk and reggae influenced singer/songwriter originally from Seattle, but based permanently in Sydney, Australia. As an advocate of following your dreams, Kym’s life revolves around the simple pleasures of surfing and music.
The lifestyle Kym leads in Australia has had a positive impact on her music and lyrical content. “I didn’t start writing music until I moved to Australia, so I think I’ve mainly been influenced by my way of life since moving here. I get a lot of inspiration from living on the beach and a good surf always helps inspire my song writing” she explained.
Kym never dreamt of being a musician when she was younger and only picked up the guitar later in life. She described the whole music thing as sneaking up on her. She explains, “when I first started playing guitar I was travelling in Australia and had a lot of free time to play guitar and song write. A few years later I went back to school to get my graduate degree in Australia and started gigging for the fun of it. It wasn’t until I was asked to go full time at my marketing job that I really made a conscious decision to start a music career. I turned down the job offer and made the decision to pursue music full time for a while to see how I went.” Kym never doubted herself for a minute though, living by a virtue of no regrets, she was always destined to reach her potential.
Since throwing herself into music, Kym has already achieved great success. She signed a deal with Medici Studios and received the enormous accolade of being compared to Jack Johnson, something she is really pleased with. “I really admire Jack Johnson’s song writing. I also really respect his stance on environmental issues and how he uses his influence through music to educate people” she said.
